Stall holders petitioned for a nightwatchman but Committee decided that since it would still be necessary to continue the day constable at the Markets, it would be better to place iron bars in the open spaces over the shutters and the gates of the Markets. As funds for this were not currently available, the Committe recommended that provision be made in the Estimates for 1847. Appended: the Petition of the Stallholders, the plan and specification prepared by the City Surveyor, Francis W. Sheilds.
