Unique IDA-00440931SeriesReports of the Improvement Committee, 1843-1887 [Municipal Council of Sydney]DateBetween 7th October 1875 and 21st October 1875FormatVolume - Leather BoundDescriptionReport of the Improvement Committee recommending changes to names of certain streets viz that the name of Albert St, Pyrmont, be retained rather than as previously recommended be changed to Raynes Street and that the lane at the rear of Shorter's residence (leading from Upper Forbes St to Thomson St) be called Shorter Lane; on reconsideration requested by Council, the Committee makes the following recommendations: Bay St Pyrmont to Bayview St; Ann St Ultimo to Mary Ann St; William St, Ultimo to William Henry St; Marshall St, Strawberry Hill to Goodlet St, formerly John St; Charles St off Parramatta St to Balfour St; Moore St (from Dowling St to Marshall St) to Guest St. Appended: Petition from residents (the majority of whom are owners) of Albert St, Pyrmont objecting to the advertised proposed change of name of the street to Raynes St and desiring that the name remain: [signatories]: -- Dugald Robinson; Alfred McDonell; William McRitchie; George Putman; James Brown; John Barry; John Welshman; Henry Wiley; Jacob Harrison; George King; Robert S Anderson; Letter from Wm E Shorter, Liverpool St, requesting that a name be given to the lane running at the back of his houses (from upper Forbes St to Thomson St); Letter from W Taylor, Elizabeth St, Paddington objecting to the proposed change of name of Moore St to Guest St believing it will be to his detriment in that he has recently sub-divided land there and sold it with the address "Moore St" and he believes purchasers may make him liable for damages; notation on back of letter: Moore; Guest to Cook St.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordNo
