Appended: Memo from Chas H Woolcott, Town Clerk, with Council resolution to refer the petition to the Committee; Petition by Sarah Bosden, widow, 355 Palmer St, alleging damage to a house owned by her in Palmer St, with details of the house and her personal circumstances; she provides as references Rev John Sharpe, Minister, Crown St and William Hopkins, builder, 10 Campbell Place; annotations by Edward Bell, City Engineer, noting that this house and the one next to it are both badly built and in a shaky condition, apparently with walls insufficient to bear their load; he does not believe the raising of the road affected them; the defects became apparent when Mr Fisher pulled down and re-built the adjoining houses; he believes that the house might be strengthened by filling around it to the level of the first floor and, while not considering the Corporation responsible at all, he feels it would be an act of charity, if the owner is agreeable, to throw street sweepings into the adjoining lane to support the house.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordNo
