Unique IDA-00444468SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial Secretary, 1842-1859Date17th July 1845FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary summarising answers given to Mayor and City Council Deputation at recent Interview with Governor: 1) Deeds of Grant will be given for Market Sheds in George Street and Corn and Hay Market Buildings in Campbell Street with clauses preventing alienation of any part of the property; 2) a Deed of Grant will be executed for Land held by Corporation at Soldier's Point subject to reservation of that portion necessary for opening of Lime Street should Surveyor General deem this necessary; 3) Granting of Land for Cattle Market in Campbell Street is inexpedient pending a decision concerning its removal beyond City limits; 4) Information has been sought from Surveyor General with respect to the Market Wharf and its reservation for Public Use; 5) While City Council must secure access to the Tunnel and Water Reserve at all times it is not considered necessary that the Surface above the Tunnel be granted to the Corporation; further communication requested from Council is awaited regarding granting of portion of the Swamp at head of the Tunnel.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
