Unique IDA-00444648SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial SecretaryDate15th December 1849FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary acknowledging Council's request, in accordance with a Recommendation from the City Council Water Committee, that a) a Grant be made to the Corporation, for public use, of a Strip of Land at least 5 chains wide as a Reserve along the Line of the Tunnel and an area at Lachlan Swamp of about 1020 acres; or b) an Extension be made of the Grant, formerly promised by Government, to include all Feeders or Falls supplying the Swamp thus securing a permanent Water Supply to the City; and advising that two Portions of Land proposed by Surveyor General, and described in the attached report, will be Granted to the Corporation to be held for the purpose of Supplying the City with Water. It is further advised that, to prevent Water Pollution, the Low Ground adjoining the Reserve and the sides of Surrounding Hills shall be kept free from Buildings and held as a place for Public Recreation under the Direction of a Committee or Trustees as in the Hyde Park in Sydney.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
