Unique IDA-00444591SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial Secretary, 1842-1859Date3rd January 1849FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary acknowledging receipt of a Copy of Correspondence between the Mayor of Sydney and Acting Senior Police Magistrate W A Miles Esquire on the subject of Rules for Conducting the Business of the Police Office and advising that, as the Mayor possesses no greater authority as a Justice of the Peace than any other Magistrate, it will rest with the majority of Magistrates present to either adopt or reject any measures proposed for amending the Conduct of the Judicial Functions of the Bench. It is further advised that, while the Executive Duties of the Police are entirely under its control and management, the Government will be ready at all times to render the Police Force available for security of lives and property of the Citizens of the City.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
