Unique IDA-00444470SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial Secretary, 1842-1859Date18th September 1845FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary summarising directions given to City Council Deputation on the Alignment of Sydney Streets at recent Interview with Governor: 1) While, under Acts passed before incorporation, certain duties in respect to laying out Streets in the City of Sydney are the responsibility of Surveyor General, no provision is made for defraying the expense of performing such duties ; 2) As the duty of laying out Streets in any Corporate Town is of a local nature, it is proposed that the Acts abovementioned now be transferred to the Corporate Body; 3) Should it be considered desirable that the laying out of Streets by Surveyor General continues, Crown Revenue expense must be limited to laying out the direction only - not marking intersections, nor verifying direction at any time after, nor settling claims for compensation in disputes arising out of encroachments; 4) Opening of New Streets through Crown Land must continue under Government control.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
