We are copper smiths and brass founders with a high pressure (4hp) engine and have no city water laid on. We have been served a notice to pay £1 p.a.for the number of rooms and do not object to pay this and £8 for our engine which we will not pay and object strongly. Our well is set up and meets all needs for the engine. We went to the Quarter Sessions court for a full day and our appeal did not get a mention, and we were told to write to the City Council (this letter). When we want water (for other than engine) we will give the proper notice and use it by meter. Notes: Francis Bell, City Engineer: inspected, a shallow recess filled from sources unknown but an open passage to adjoing house (same proprietor) with an exposed stand pipe open to all. Recommend entire property be supplied by one meter. 2. further report; 3. Ground around opened, can find no water connection with the main. 4.
