Have received a letter (no 71/105 May 30 1871) saying you could do nothing on the rating made, yet a few days later that officer waited on my tenant for the first time to see how many rooms. He had seen it cursorily from outside and guessed there was a bathroom and stables, on examination found none. His return had 6 rooms. I will pay this demand under protest and refer all facts to my solicitor. Had this happened to my houses in Cook or Phillip ward, I should have taken up the matter before. Note: 1. Water Assess't; 2. J Allum: house inspected, tenant gave information ... objection 2nd time, house of 5 rooms and stable and between kitchen and house has been used as a bath, but not enclosed.
