(Note: City Surveyor. Bridge Street. As the Gully-Shaft is round and well-constructed, & the water-trapping efficient and regularly looked after, any smell must arise from the contents of the chamber of the gully -- The man who looks after it reports that he has seen stains on the grating which points to the conclusion that other fluids than the surface drainage of street is put down the gully-shaft which may partly cause the smell complained of. Mr Seymour, I think, pays special attention to the cleaning out of this gully, but he may be referred to on the subject: ACM; 13/3/86.
