But in 1887 applied to enlarge the premises now used as a church on Sunday and a Day School during the week; which the City Solicitor appears to have advised should be assessed from the beginning of 1888. (Note: 17/9/88 The other papers in connection with this case: JH. I know of no documents - all has been verbal, with the exception of an explanatory letter from Mr Coleman to Mr Aldm Young: CHL; 18/9/88. Will the City Solicitor advise if this building is liable for rates: HJD; 25/9/88. The wording of the 117th section of "the Sydney Corporation Act of 1879" seems very clear - it says (inter alia) that, no building used solely for public worship shall be liable to be assessed or rated -. It appears that the building in question is used chiefly as a school, & on Sunday as a church - The building is certainly not one used solely for church purposes, and unless the School is under the Public Schools Act, the Building is "rateable property" under the 103rd section: GM; 29/3/89.
