(Note: 19/9/88 City Surveyor: JH. 20/9/88 Ack. Permission to lay sample. This is a letter from Mr James Angus on behalf of Patentee of "Bituminous Rock Compressed Blocks" for street paving, applying for permission to lay sample of same. In considering this application it will be necessary to stipulate the following conditions. 1st That the applicant undertake all liability, risk, etc. in consequence of damage or accident that may arise on account of such pavement being laid. 2nd That should it eventually prove undesirable, dangerous, inconvenient, or in any other way affect the comfort and safety of the citizens, that the said applicant will cause the same to be removed at their own cost and within twentyfour (24) hours of notice from the Municipal Council so to do. 3rd That the pavement be laid in George Street where directed and under the supervision of the City Surveyor who will however from time to time authorise such inspection as the said Council may desire to exercise in their own behalf. 4.
