The street off to the left is Pitt Street. In the background to the right is the printing firm of St Leigh on the corner of Goulburn, Elizabeth and Castlereagh Streets. Behind it with the tower on the roof is Mark Foys Department Store at 143 to 147 Liverpool Street. The building on the left is the Chamberlain Hotel on the corner of Pitt and Campbell Streets. Behind this is the Peoples Palace at 404 Pitt Street. On the right is Belmore Park with trees and horses with carts are parked on Hay Street. Opened in 1869 and named the Belmore Markets after the then Governor of the colony. Chinese gardeners brought cartloads of vegetables to this market daily.
