Samuel Elyard, Vaillele cottage, Cleveland Street, Redfern. He brings to the attention of the Council the nuisance existing at the south side of the Cleveland Paddock. "Drains from the south side of Cleveland Street empty themselves into the paddock and form large deposits of filth". There is a rough sketch in his letter. He suggests cutting two drains across the paddock to a creek or drain which is in a valley on the north side of the paddock. There is a note by Edward Bell, City Engineer who agrees that "the paddock is in a filthy state from the Redfern drainage being carried under the road from houses on the south side of Cleveland Street". He gives the cost for the work involved. However there is a note that Cleveland Paddock is the property of the Government and the Municipal Council have no power to carry out the work suggested.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
