Residents of Macquarie Place and others objecting to the removal of "an ornamental building situated at the corner of Macquarie Place and Bridge Street and now used as a Fountain and Urinal … on the grounds principally of its great service, as an old relic, and of its ornamental appearance" and that "the draymen and others permitted to stand there are ever on the alert that no other nuisance is committed, that it is always clean and in order through their surveillance."
