(Note: Inspector of Nuisances. Received 25/7/87: RS. To Town Clerk. With reference to the reply of the Council Clerk of Paddington to your letter of 13th instant, re conveyance of night soil through the streets of the city, also to the report of the Inspector of Nuisances of that Borough. I have the honor to inform you that complaints having been made to me of an abominable stench all along the route of night carts through the streets to Brown & Browns punt at Pyrmont. I directed two of my officers to be posted at night to watch and to ascertain who were the offending parties, and from what places the night soil was conveyed. The report of these officers to whom the Paddington Council Clerk letter has been referred shews unmistakeably that the complaints were not without foundation and that the Inspector referred to (Mr ONeill) is in error.
