Edw W Knox, General Manager, Colonial Sugar Refining Company Ltd, Offices O'Connell Street Sydney. He has received from the Inspector of Nuisances a requisition "to affix proper and suitable apparatus" to their furnaces at the Pyrmont Refinery to reduce the smoke. Knox writes that the smoke is kept down by the method of firing and by the use of coal from the southern collieries and there is not to his knowledge any apparatus that would lessen the volume of smoke emitted. Note: referred to R Seymour, Inspector of Nuisances - He and Mr Baker have observed large volumes of smoke.
