Note: Ask City Solr to say why he withdrew these summonses. I think the loitering & assembly of such men as [this] in main streets shld be presented: WPM;29/6/93. City Solicitor - With reference to the report of constable A Taylor to the Superintendent of Police re summons cases against one James Donaldson for loitering I have the honor to state that said Donaldson being a cripple having lost a portion of his hand, the remainder of which is otherwise deformed, he is thereby incapacitated for the performance of any manual labour, his only means of subsistence is by singing, furthermore his intelligence, deportment and appearance, are decidedly of a respectable type: the above facts having been communicated to you, at your recommendation I obtained a postpone of the case for a fortnight. In the meantime you promised to submit this matter to his Worship the Mayor. The summons were withdrawn. Another summons has been served upon this man for a similar act as above for which he was fined on 22 June at the Central Police Court in the sum of 10/- with 5/6 costs: RS; 8/7/93.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
