John Rae, Department of Public Works. In reply to the letter sent to them by the Town Clerk regarding the bursting of the six feet Sewer at Blackwattle Swamp, they have included a report by the Engineer in Chief for Harbours and Rivers (marked A). This report blames the burst sewer on inadequate street gratings. There is another report (marked B) by J Doherty, foreman of sewers, for Francis Bell, the City Engineer, giving his observations. There is a notation by Francis Bell where he also gives a description, and blames obstruction by cages filled with coke or charcoal.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
