Ralph Mansfield, Secretary Australian Gas Light Company, responding to the Council's letter of 26th ultimo requesting the erection of one public lamp in Lower Fort Street and two in Brisbane Street. Instructions have been given for the erection of the lamp in Lower Fort Street but the engineer reports that the site of the two for Brisbane Street has not been indicated. Edward Bell, City Engineer, reports that Mr Parker showed Mr Barlow the peg for the Fort Street lamp on 9th August and would have shown him the pegs for Brisbane Street if he had asked. There is no main in Brisbane Street and Mr Bell had been told by Mr Parker some time since, that Mr Barlow had stated there was no use sending orders to peg out lamps where they had no mains laid because they had no pipes to lay it.
