There is a notation by J Trevor Jones, City Engineer that it was known that the supply to Lavender Street would be precarious due to its elevation and the main across the harbour is too small for supply during warm weather. It was one of the conditions that North Shore would be supplied until their own main is laid via Lane Cove Road.
