The crank shaft of the main pumping engine at Crown Street needs replacing. It had originally been made by Mort & Co, and cracks had appeared, were reported in September 1887 and were braced around with strong iron straps. He advises that Council call for tenders for the manufacture and insertion of new cranks and crank axles. The Morts Dock Co is the only firm in possession of plant equal to making so large a piece of work. He estimates the work will be £450, and the work should be done in winter when water consumption is not heavy.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
