(Note: 17/10/88 Ack. Mr Seymour: JH; 15/10/88. Received: RS; 17/10/88. With reference to the complaints contained in Mr Southward's letter of 15th instant of dust being allowed to remain in heaps in Harris Street and of neglect and waste of time by the Corporations scavangers I have the honor to state that the overseer of that District informs me that on the Saturday mentioned in said letter the dust heaps in Harris Street were removed by the carters before one o'clock on said day. With regard to waste of time I have repeatedly instructed the whole of the gangers to be most particular in assigning to each man under their supervision such a portion of work to be completed in such a manner as will admit of no time for loitering in any form, and in the event of any default or neglect on the part of any carter or labourer to report the defaulter at once to me: RS; 22/10/88)LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
