On the left is the Sun newspaper building and then a Shell car park. Somerset House is further along and then the GPO with the clock tower and at the far end in George Street is the Bank of New South Wales with the curved entrance on the right at 341 George Street and at 343 is the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney. Building on the right at 48-56 Martin Place is the Government Savings Bank of NSW and the Rural Bank. There is a wooden ramp from the carpark and boardwalk along the side of the banks. Martin Place was originally Martin Lane and ran from George Street to Pitt Street until widened in 1892 and became Martin Place.
