Ralph Marsden, Secretary Australian Gas Light Company, responding to the Council's enquiry as to why the gas main in Campbell Street has not been lowered. He encloses a copy of their engineer James Barlow's report in which he hesitates to carry out the requisition of the City Engineer because it is couched in terms which might be construed into a denial of the Company's claim upon the City for the expense of the work. Referred to the Lighting Committee where the City Engineer is asked to report. He reports that it is the gas service pipe to the Israelite sanctuary which requires to be lowered from its present position within 6inches of the surface of the gutter.
