Ralph Mansfield, Secretary Australian Gas Light Company, referring to letters of 22nd August, 20th September and 2nd October requesting erection in sundry places of thirty public lamps. The Company's Engineer cannot report on the exact situations as the needful instructions have not yet been supplied by the City authorities. Edward Bell, City Engineer, reports the lamps were witheld from pegging out until it was known which were to be gas and which to be kerosene. On 17th October he served notice for the pegging out of 16 of the lamps about which there could be no doubt and on 21st October he received a letter from the Company's Engineer which made clear that they do not appear willing to erect some if they do not have a list of the whole.
