Benjamin Morris, 26 Wellington St Chippendale. He wrote last month regarding the drain in George St West No 61. Since then they have taken up all the pipes, stone and blocks of wood. He received permission 41 years ago to place it there and it cost him over £100. It is to drain the foundations to keep the water out of his cellars when it rains. There is a notation that the works are being carried out by the Tramway Works. There is a report by A C Mountain, City Surveyor that an old stone drain runs from the cellar and joins the street gutter a considerable distance below the house. He recommends that the drain be abolished and Mr Morris drain his cellar by pumping, as many other citizens do, until a sewer is constructed, which is what the City Engineer is about to recommend.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
