Richard Seymour, Inspector of Nuisances. Draws attention to a drain known as "West's Creek" which runs through the Barcom Glen Estate into Ruchcutters Bay. The creek receives the drainage from a greater portion of the western side of Paddington, and from Darlinghurst and Surry Hills. It has become a common open sewer and also receives drainage from St Vincents Hospital. The smell is disgusting in extreme. He asks that the City Engineer provide a proper sewer. Enclosed are two letters from N P Sutton of "Hillmorton', 49 West Street, and Mr Saunders of Barcom Street. There is a notation by the City Engineer J Trevor Jones that a system of drainage has been designed and only awaits the completion of the outfall sewer into Rushcutters Bay.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
