The shippers wished to file a claim against the French Underwriters. Having received no response, he wrote again. The Mayor requests a report from the Inspector of Nuisances. Inspector of Nuisances states that he searched the files but could find no trace of the alleged condemnation and he invited Mr Fitzgerald to call upon him and give him more information. Mr Fitzgerald declined to do so. He then states that he and the City Health Officer, inspected a cargo of bananas early in the year on the SS La Perouse and determined that the greater portion were unfit for human food. A few bunches were placed on the wharf which were fit to be eaten. They returned next day for a full inspection to find that the good bananas had been disposed of and the others taken away to sea and cast overboard.
