City Projects Division
Unique IDAG-0136DescriptionThis agency is deemed to have been created on 1 January 1993, following the Council decision of 21 December 1992 to adopt the new management structure proposed by consultants Ernst & Young.
The new Council organisational structure is divided into five divisions, namely: CA 136, City Projects Division, CA 137, Urban Services Division, CA 135, City Planning and Building Division, CA 112, Cultural and Community Services, and CA 111, Corporate and Business Services.
During the same meeting, Council approved the creation of a task force to determine the composition of the City Projects Division. The task force was composed of the Lord Mayor, the Chairman of the Civic Design Sub-Committee, the General Manager and other appropriate senior staff.
CA 136, City Projects Division is responsible for three areas of responsibility: (a) project and urban design covering the preparation of sketches, concepts, plans, and detailed designs for all projects referred to it by Council; (b) project determination that includes analyses and evaluation of new city projects; and (c) project management that takes care of setting project timetables, development monitoring and control, and costing of projects and maintenance of quality standards (see job description for the Assistant General Manager, City Projects Division).
Following the allocation of the 2000 Olympic games to Sydney, and the development of a large-scale program to prepare the City for this event from about 1997 onwards, City Projects were responsible for management of the George St/Railway Square, Retail Core and Martin Place upgrades, construction of the KGV Recreation Centre, Cook & Phillip Park and the City Recital Hall, redevelopment of the Customs House, new street furniture and numerous other projects.
