Unique IDA-00505361SeriesLetters Sent by the Mayor, 1843-1848Date1st April 1843Date qualifierexactFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter number 9: Letter from WC Wills (Secretary, Office of the Mayor) to Revd J D Lang DD (Principal, Australian College): Instruction to acknowledge receipt of letter, of 30th March, relative to remission of fees chargeable, under the Colonial Building Act, on the public Lecture Room or Common Hall of the Australian College, and to advise that there is nothing contained in the Act which exempts buildings for Educational purposes. Indeed the second clause of the Act, for regulating Buildings and preventing mischiefs by fire in the Town of Sydney, distinctly enacts "that every Church, Chapel, Meeting House and other public place of worship of what dimensions soever shall be deemed the first rate or class of building". While the late District Surveyor under the Government did occasionally remit fees in the way of a donation, when they formed part of his own emoluments, the fees now belong to the Corporation and it is not possible to individually interfere in this matter..LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYesBorn digital itemNo
