Unique IDA-00505471SeriesLetters Sent by the Mayor, 1843-1848Date25th April 1845Date qualifierexactFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter number 120: Letter from George Allen (Mayor, Office of the Mayor) to Edward Deas Thomson (Colonial Secretary): I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter, of 19th Instant, together with a Copy of the Attorney General's opinion relative to the removal of certain difficulties at present existing in the particular jurisdiction which, under certain Acts of the Legislature, is at present vested in the two Police Magistrates only, and stating that His Excellency the Governor is willing to act on the suggestion of the Attorney General to obviate the difficulty by appointing the Mayor, for the time being, one of the Police Magistrates of Sydney, provided I so desire it. In reply I have the honor to state, for the information of His Excellency the Governor, that, if Legislative interference be unnecessary, I think it would be desirable for public convenience and for placing the Chief Magistrate of the City on a level, at least, with the other Magistrates, that the Mayor, for the time being, should be appointed a Police Magistrate.
