Unique IDA-00505427SeriesLetters Sent by the MayorDate5th January 1844FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from J R Wilshire (Mayor, Office of the Mayor) to Charles Windeyer JP (Police Magistrate): In reply to your communication, of yesterday's date, requesting names of the Individuals who are no longer to be employed in the Police Establishment, in consequence of the reduced Estimate of City Council, I beg simply to refer you to: 1) Section 70 of the Corporation Act, for a definition of the powers of the Mayor and Council of the City with reference to the Police; 2) Section 3 of the Appropriation Act (6 Victoria No 5) showing that the appointment, dismissal and general administration of the Police are not as yet vested in the Corporation, but are expressly reserved by the Executive Government.
