Unique IDA-00505377SeriesLetters Sent by the MayorDate18th June 1843Date qualifierexactFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter number 25: Letter from John Hosking (Mayor, Office of the Mayor) to W C Wentworth & W Bland (Legislative Council Members): I acknowledge your communication, of this day's date, making allusion to the Riots that took place, on 13th and 15th Instant, and stating your intention, in consequence, to dispense with the usual practice of being chaired through the City. You however desire to be present on the Hustings tomorrow, to meet your constituents, upon receiving my distinct pledge, as Mayor of the City, that proper and efficient means will be adopted to preserve the public peace. I have given instructions to the Commissioner of Police that the most efficient means be taken to guard against the possibility of any violation of the public peace, and that a sufficient Constabulary be prepared to act in case of need.
