Unique IDA-00444911SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial Secretary, 1842-1859Date24th July 1854FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary acknowledging the letter from City Commissioners respecting Waste of Water at the Fort Macquarie Fountain, transmitting a Copy of a Memorandum furnished by the Brigade Major, and advising that: 1) the Key of the Cock of the Water Pipe is in the Charge of a Sergeant of the 11th Regiment, stationed at Fort Macquarie for that purpose; 2) Water supplied by this Cock belongs exclusively to Vessels of War in the Harbor and is not to be used for any purposes other than Watering such Vessels; 3) as the Wharf has been built for the Private Use of Government House it would be very undesirable to Let the Water, as proposed, thereby creating an intolerable nuisance to Government House Residents and Men-of-War Officers who alone have the privilege of landing there; 4) it appears that this Proposal was made Without having obtained a Proper Knowledge of the Facts.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
