I may remind the Council that this matter relates to a vote of £100 passed by the Council to enable Mrs Gould's property to be approached from the new formation of Brougham Street. The lowest tender for the work as stipulated for by Mr Gould's architect is (as shewn on attached abstract) £176-10-0 nearly double the amount voted by the Council. The levels of the street were advertized in the usual way, & approved: the road being cut down to the adopted levels, thereby leaving the back entrances of this property 8 or 9 feet above the street & without access to it. The offer of the Council of £100 to make good the unavoidable damage and afford access to the place seems to be a sufficient. I remains for the Council to say if they will supplement it: ACM:5/5/82. 1/6/82 To be informed accordingly: JohnH. 6.6.82 Mr Gould has expressed his willingness to complete these works to the satisfaction of the City Surveyor for the sum of £120. Will the Surveyor please report on this offer: CHW. I think this offer may be accepted. It is only £20 in excess of my first estimate, and will provide for the work being finished in an more elaborate manner than was contemplated originally: ACM;7/6/82.
