C H E Blackman, architect, 375 George Street, Sydney. The new banking premises belonging to the Austalian Joint Stock Bank is now nearly completed. A hydraulic lift has been erected in the building with a tank placed at the top of the building, which will contain about 2000 gallons of water. However the pressure of water in the main in George Street is insufficient to even fill the tank, and consequently the lift cannot be used. He has received advice from the City Engineer that the premises might be connected to another main having considerably higher pressure. There is a notation by J Trevor Jones, City Engineer, that it could be connected to the high level main in York Street at a cost of £20.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
