Regarding the nuisance of the "want of public closet accommodation" in the city, which obliges the hardworking classes to ease their bowels on any vacant piece of land that they can find near their place of work. He gives the examples of the laborers at the Black Wall Stores who use the Domain, and the men quarrying near the rear of the Model Lodging House in Kent Street who use a vacant parcel of land. The only closets in the city are at the Railway terminus, and the excessively filthy ones at the Markets. There is a report by A C Mountain, City Surveyor which says that Bradley's letter is not accurate, as contractors erecting a building are required to provide temporary closets for their workers, and there are clean public conveniences at the Haymarket. The closets at Circular Quay are not very creditable, but are not under the control of the Corporation. He is preparing a report for Mr Alderman Lees.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
