Unique IDA-00503138SeriesCity Solicitor's LettersDateBetween 16th September 1842 and 21st September 1847FormatVolume - Leather BoundDescriptionMemo from City Solicitor: Memo from GR Nichols to the Town Clerk, in relation to the removal of a fence in Cumberland St erected by Helen Harpur, giving his opinion that Council has the power to order and cause the removal according to Section 85 of the Corporation Act. Annotations: 30 August read; 21 September City Surveyor ordered to remove fence. Appended: Memo of City Surveyor, Francis W Sheilds, to the Town Clerk giving details of the obstruction, noting Cumberland St was proclaimed in the Government Gazette 16 September 1842 but not aligned by posts until after the erection of the fence; the fence replaced another; he served notice to remove the fence but this has not been done and he has been informed that no claim for compensation has been lodged.
