Note: 1/4/86 Refer to Mr Lines & Mr Woolcott for report: JY. I fear the within proposition would not only necessitate additional clerical assistance but endanger possible and serious complications - grave responsibility is involved in the receipt of rates when the recovery of those unpaid is made by warrants and the numerous and various enquiries that are engendered and constantly being made, could only meet with adequate attention and explanation where the machinery of men, books, papers and documents are concentrated; and these are arranged in sections and not in single municipalities and could not be divided or allowed to leave the office to meet the requirements of a single municipality - Further we are supplying sixteen municipalities and impartiality of treatment would be expected; to a minority it is no doubt somewhat of an inconvenience, but clusters of houses are in the hands of one person or firm who make one payment of the whole, again a large section take advantage of any opportunity that may call or attract them to the City and only a minimum come for the express purpose - and the period during which payment can be made is necessarily a protracted one - altogether I cannot but regard the matter as impracticable: CHL & CHW. 20/4/86 Newtown Council informedLanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
