Regarding the chimney fire at no 7 Swan Street: the premises are in a dilapidated condition, occupied by a very poor widow, with 5 young children; she appears to be a clean and careful woman. The chimney fire was purely accidental and caused by a spark from the grate. Attached is a report by Alfred Webb, acting Supt, Metropolitan Fire Brigade: the fire occurred 5.35pm Sunday 7th October, tenant Edwin Taylor, owner Edward Hordern; extinguished with handpump, brigade present were E Roberts and D Killa; chimney cracked and dangerous to light fires; marked "poor case".
