Sewerage Notices have been served on 17 tenants of mine in Bettington & Merriman Sts, previously exempt from that rate. Inform you I do not intend to pay as when under construction, no sewer avaiable, the Corporation compelled me to purchase as right to carry drainage through Capt Charles Smith's property to Darling Harbor for which I hold a title deed. This was dearly bought and I cannot be deprived of this benefit. Notes: 1. J Trevor Jones: Parles' properties are connected to City pipes across Capt Smith's for storm water from gully at foot of Bettington St to the Harbor. Capt Smith granted permission for closets to connect, and Parles claimed and was granted exemption from sewer rates, as if own drain to Harbor. Since then, Capt Smith allowed pipes to be relaid for sewer and connected, my opinion is he is liable. 2. City Sol: Liable for sewerage rates. 3. Inf'd.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
