(Note: 1/7/87 Ack. City Surveyor. This letter is a sequel to one from the Government in which the Council are asked to defer the calling of Tenders for the woodpaving of George St South. Plans and specifications are now ready for the work and Tenders could be invited, provided the Government accede to a request from this Department to lower the Tramway to the extent necessary for the proper construction of the Roadway in question. I would certainly recommend that the work be deferred until such time as the alterations, and laying of heavy rails are complete, as otherwise it will entail a waste of material hereafter and as the work is very extensive I think it positively unwise and dangerous to proceed with the same under the present conditions. I would further recommend that the Town Clerk communicate with the Government asking their approval of the proposed Plan and Sections: RWR;1/7/87. 11/7/87 Forward the plans and specifications to the Government at once, with an indication that for various weighty reasons this work cannot longer be delayed.
