Henry Graham, City Health Officer. There is a burial ground attached to a Wesleyan Church at Botany and it was brought to his attention that this ground is close to the Water Works and may percolate into it. There is a note by Edward Bell, City Engineer that gives full description about the area in question including that the burial ground has been used for 11 years and contains about 35 graves and mentions gardens cultivated; culvert under Botany road; row of cottages for tannery workers. Bell had already put into place a bank and ditch so that the water runs into the sea. He feels that the burial ground in its present state is not injurious to the city water supply but he does suggest some restriction be placed on its use.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
