James Tamsett and other wholesale fruit growers and sellers attending the George Street Markets. They pay the markets one shilling per load for a cart drawn by one horse, and one shilling six pence for a cart drawn by two horses. There is on average 250 growers who sell their produce at the markets weekly, and some of them come three times a week. They complain that there is insufficient accommodation within the markets and they have to remain in York Street to sell their produce, where they risk being fined by the police for obstruction, and they are still obliged to pay the market's dues. They ask that they have the market's sheds now occupied by retail dealers who are weekly tenants, and the part of the markets now used as a Boot Mart which was originally meant for fruit growers.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
