Unique IDA-00444969SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial Secretary, 1842-1859Date8th March 1855Date qualifierexactFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary on the subject of City Engineer's further Sewerage Report, in response to Objections previously raised to the Proposed Outlet at Fort Macquarie, advising that: 1) getting rid of the 50,000 tons of solid matter proposed to be discharged annually into the harbor at this point becomes a matter of importance and, as the only mode is by Dredging, the actual Cost of the proposed plan is £9,000 at least, in excess of the natural plan of taking the drainage to the nearest and readiest outlet; 2) the Sewer in its course to Fort Macquarie would Prevent Improvements to be made in the ground between Macquarie Street and Circular Quay where it would be desirable to cut down the bank and widen the wharf.
