Unique IDA-00445038SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial Secretary, 1842-1859Date16th October 1855FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary referring to the letter from City Commissioners respecting the Proposed Bridge to Pyrmont and advising, after further communication with Mr Smith, Secretary to the Pyrmont Bridge Company, that: 1) rather than a permanent alienation of portion of the Market Wharf proposed for abutment of the Bridge, Only a Permissive Occupancy is required so long as authorised by the Legislature; 2) as the portion applied for is the Steps already used as a Public Landing Place this would appear to Negate the Legal Objection stated to exist by City Solicitor. It is further advised that, as the Bridge will be for the advantage of the City generally, Compensation ought Not to be claimed for occupation of the desired site and a further report in this matter from City Commissioners is requested.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
