Unique IDA-00445204SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial Secretary, 1842-1859Date20th October 1857Date qualifierexactFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary referring to previous correspondence on the subject of Formation by Municipal Council of Sydney of Public Baths in a portion of the Government Domain and advising that, Executive Council having approved of the Plans submitted, the Land required for the Baths should be Leased to the Corporation for 21 years, instead of being Granted, subject to the following conditions: 1) a Fence be erected in the Water sufficiently high to Prevent Bathers from being Seen by Residents on the opposite shore of Woolloomooloo Bay; 2) a similar Fence be erected on the Land side to Conceal Bathers from persons passing along the road in the Domain; 3) the general Arrangements proposed by the Corporation for Management of the Baths and Admission of the Public thereto be submitted for Government approval. It is further advised that: 1) attention of City Council be drawn to the Expediency of Providing Public Baths for use of the Female Sex somewhere in the same neighbourhood; 2) a communication has been made to Department of Land and Public Works with a view to this Government decision being carried into effect.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYesBorn digital itemNo
