Unique IDA-00445161SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial Secretary, 1842-1859Date18th May 1857Date qualifierexactFormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary referring to previous communication, from City Commissioners, respecting a Claim for Repayment of amounts expended in Opening Streets through Crown Land and advising City Council that: 1) a recent Report from Department of Land and Public Works agrees with the decision, formerly communicated to City Commissioners, that the terms of the Regulations on which the Claim is founded were not complied with; 2) no Estimate was made, work was performed chiefly by day labor, accounts do not show how amounts of day labor spent upon these streets was ascertained, and Accounts include Charges for work not coming within the operation of the Regulation; 3) had the Course Prescribed been followed, City Council or City Commissioners may have been able to claim some compensation for formation of those streets, yet Sanctioning payment of accounts for Expenditure incurred in an Unauthorised and Irregular manner cannot be justified.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYesBorn digital itemNo
