Unique IDA-00445284SeriesLetters Received from the Colonial SecretaryDate22nd June 1859FormatVolume - HardcoverDescriptionLetter from Colonial Secretary referring to the letter of 29th March last from City Council respecting Electoral Lists for the Municipality of Sydney and advising that: 1) the Corporation Act of 1857 Section 5 provides that all Persons named in the Electoral Roll for the Electoral District of Sydney and being Rate Payers shall be entitled to vote at the Election of Aldermen and Auditors, every Citizen may vote at the Election of Aldermen, in every Ward in respect of which he is qualified, but for Auditors in only one Ward; 2) the two Electoral Rolls (for East and West Sydney) may be taken as the Electoral Roll for the Electoral District of Sydney, within the meaning of the Corporation Act, and, from these Rolls, Lists may be prepared of Citizens of each Ward entitled to vote at Municipal Elections with the number given opposite the name, as it stands on the Electoral Roll, to enable the Returning Officer to mark it off on the Roll as required by the Act; 3) Copies of the Electoral Rolls for East and West Sydney with the Wards distinctly defined, forwarded by Inspector General of Police, are enclosed.
